Did you know that an aligned smile is actually good for your oral health? A straight smile allows you to properly clean your teeth and gums to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Dr. Lawrence Gerhart offers Invisalign® to help our patients achieve straighter smiles in Tucson, [state.

With Invisalign®, we use a series of clear aligners to gradually straighten your smile without wires and brackets. To experience the benefits of Invisalign, you simply have to do three basic things. Wear your aligners as scheduled, change the aligner trays as scheduled, and see Dr. Lawrence Gerhart every 2-3 weeks to make sure your smile is aligning properly.

Because you take the aligners out to eat, you can still enjoy your favorite foods without worry about harming brackets and wires or cleaning around them as you do with braces.

Our Lawrence Gerhart DDS team has been successfully helping patients straighten their smiles with Invisalign and improve the following oral conditions:

–Smile Gaps: Gaps in your smile left untreated can potentially cause problems with your gums, including periodontal pockets, making you at higher risk of gum disease.

–Overcrowding: If there is not enough room for the teeth to fit correctly, this can lead to crooked teeth and set the stage for gum disease and plaque buildup due to difficulty brushing and flossing your pearly whites.

–Overbites: With an overbite, the upper teeth bite over your bottom teeth. Left uncorrected, gum irritation and the wearing down of the lower teeth may result, leaving you with painful jaw and joint problems.

–Underbites: If your lower teeth stick out past your front teeth, you may experience problems with the normal function of your front teeth and your molars. As the wear and tear on the teeth continue, you may experience jaw and joint pain.

–Open bites: When some of your teeth fail to meet the opposite teeth, you may not be able to chew properly. Left uncorrected, you can end up with pain when you chew or problems with your speech. This, in turn, may lead to TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder).

–Crossbites:  If your jaws are both misaligned, you may end up with a crossbite. This results in one or more of your upper teeth biting the inside of the lower teeth. Along with wear and tear on the enamel, this can also cause gum disease and bone loss.
