If one of your teeth gets knocked out in an accident, take these steps to help you save that tooth and have it reinserted.
First, pick up the lost tooth by the crown, the top part of the tooth. Do not pick it up by the roots. Gently wipe off any dirt from the tooth, because keeping it clean may be important for the next step.
To save the tooth, you must keep it alive by keeping it moist, and your own saliva can generally do that. You can either try to reinsert it into the socket it fell out from or place it between your teeth and cheek.
If you are uncomfortable with either option above or unable to place the tooth in your mouth, placing it in cold milk will keep it alive as well. Just remember to be quick in order to save the tooth.
Try to reach the dentist within 15 to 30 minutes of the accident. The dentist can take steps to place the tooth back. The dentist may also provide a special solution that can keep the tooth alive for longer. Even so, try to reach him within 30 minutes.
